The coastline is dotted with these wonderfully tactile wooden posts. They are called ‘Grues’ and are placed to enable the particular and unique style of small, flat bottomed fishing boat called a ‘batana’ to be launched and recovered.

These have a flat bottom to negotiate the rocky coast and have a glass panel built into the bottom to make spotting the shoals of fish easier.
